Cheltenham Festival Well Worth the Entrance Fee

December 18, 2017

Source: sihaywardphoto via Twitter

Cheltenham Festival offers great entertainment throughout the week on the racecourse, making it a must-visit destination for even casual fans of horse racing. Thousands of people converge on the Cotswolds for the event in the second week of March. Although temperatures are not alluring at the time of year, the stands at the stadium are always full of revellers.

The event has become a permanent fixture in the British sporting calendar. Almost every media outlet has specialist coverage of the week, which features some of the finest horses, jockeys and trainers from around the world. The Cheltenham Gold Cup is the primary race of the week, although each meet provides just as much entertainment.

Irish horse Altior has won 11 races on the bounce, including his victory at Cheltenham Festival last season in the Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices’ Chase by a comfortable margin. Nicky Henderson’s charge could be lining up another triumph at the event for the current campaign, being considered the leading contenders amongst the Oddchecker list of bookies for the Queen Mother Champion Chase in a competitive field, which should provide plenty of drama.

Altior will take to the track on March 14, which happens to be Ladies’ Day at Cheltenham. Therefore it’s a perfect getaway for a couples holiday, spending a day at the races and the surrounding areas – whether it’s for just one day or even the entire week. Tickets can be purchased for a low as £30, although to see the Festival in style it can be as expensive as £770 to use the restaurant facilities within the exclusive areas of the concourse.

That’s a lot of money, especially when there are a number of concession stands in the stadium featuring a variety of food and drink options. In 2015, over 120,000 bottles of wine and 265,000 pints of Guinness were drunk at the event, highlighting why so many people can kick back and enjoy the festivities, which can be enhanced if you have punting success. So, if you like partying awhy not attend  the Cheltenham Festival? You can even experience the best beers  U.K. and

Even if you’re not the biggest racing enthusiast or tee-total, the atmosphere of the stadium is still an enticing experience, to say the least. There are not many sporting events that allow you to be suited and booted or for the ladies selecting the most extravagant of dress and headwear. On average, 62,000 people attend each day of the Festival, which would guarantee to offer some weird and wonderful attire from spectators.

How to cope with the death of a loved one when you are overseas

December 15, 2017

The death of someone you love is a shocking and terrible experience, but being informed of the death of a loved one when you are miles away from home significantly compounds and complicates your grief.

Thinking practically in times of grief

Traveling overseas can be an exhilarating experience, but it’s natural for many long-term travelers to have feelings of guilt over missing things that are going on back home. Births, weddings, graduations and other celebrations can be shared from afar through phone calls, video chats, pictures and social media, but the death of a loved one presents unique challenges for overseas travelers.

You may experience a profound sense of guilt that can make the decision of whether or not to return home for a loved one’s funeral or cremation services particularly tricky. You must consider the cost, distance and time involved in making a sudden change to your travel plans.

While some airlines still offer emergency bereavement fares at a discount, the process of qualifying for one of these tickets can be lengthy, requiring certain proof and documents to which you may not have access.

If you need an emergency flight home, your best bet is to contact the airline by phone. Not only can you access unpublished and last-minute fares, but speaking with an informed individual and having the chance to explain your situation can be extremely helpful.

Be open to options you may not have considered, such as flight plus rental car packages, alternate airports and red-eye or connecting flights to get you home as quickly as possible.

Make sure you have your passport, visas and any other identifying documentation up-to-date and readily available, especially if you’ll need to pass through multiple countries on your way back to the United States.

Grieving from afar

If you can’t get home, there are ways you can grieve from a distance. Besides, many people use travelling, as a form of treatment when feeling sadness in their lives.

It is one of the most difficult things to do as an overseas traveler; having to acknowledge the loss of a person you haven’t seen in quite some time. The ‘here today, gone tomorrow’ reality may be particularly hard to process, because you may be alone in your grief.

To help combat this feeling of isolation and loneliness, contact your family, close friends and anyone who will understand the pain of your loss. Sharing memories and sympathies with others who are grieving can be very cathartic.

Share your feelings with your traveling companions or friends. Even if they didn’t know your loved one, they will offer gestures of compassion and sympathy that can help ease your pain and make you feel less alone.

Using travel to cope

In some cases, returning to travel can help heal your soul after the death of a loved one.

Getting out of your routine, filling your life with beautiful experiences, maintaining an outward focus on the practical matters of traveling and setting yourself on a new path following a loss can help you work through your grief.

Traveling, a treatment for depression

December 13, 2017

Depression is a debilitating mental illness that is surprisingly common these days, and it can really affect anybody at any time. Mental health problems do not discriminate, and you don’t have to be ‘sad’ to suffer from them. Hundreds of thousands of perfectly happy, stable people with careers, families and a high quality of life suffer from depression, and it can often feel like an illness that is simply impossible to fight. Fighting against depression requires a lot of force, self-esteem and support from others, but self-esteem is precisely the thing that it often totally destroys.

Though support from others is essential, overcoming depression is really a battle that one must fight, gradually building up self-esteem, practicing self-love and carrying out activities that help with treatment and to tranquilize the mind. When suffering from depression, even the simplest things can seem impossible. Just getting out of bed and washing can feel like an impossible chore for many, and getting out of that mindset is very difficult and requires patience.

One of the best ways to treat depression and work towards a healthier mind and happier you is to get out and travel. You can travel alone, or with friends, or you could even try travelling with your brother. Having support from family and friends is always helpful. Sometimes, when just getting out of bed feels like a chore, the idea of traveling and getting outside your comfort zone can be a scary thought, but it is precisely this that will help condition your mind and give you purpose, a distraction from the everyday routine, and plenty of things to be excited about and look forward to. Getting out of the same routine and trying new things may seem exhausting, but really it is incredibly refreshing, and for many suffering with depression, it is just what they need.

Accepting the challenges that come with traveling and letting yourself go in this sense are great ways of practicing self-love and help with self-belief. Getting out there to travel will make you feel strong and help you grow as a human being, and even meet new people. You may even meet others suffering from depression, and sharing your stories could be incredibly healing for both parties.

Before heading out, you should make sure that you are insured and that you will not run into any problems should you need access to medication or medical help whilst you are away from home. When suffering from depression, one of the most important things is to feel secure and to not have to worry about anything. Travel insurance for depression can be difficult to find, since it is not a physical illness, but you can find special insurance companies that understand your needs and that cover psychological conditions, understanding that they are equally important.

There are tons of stories out there about people who have helped treat their depression through traveling. Certainly, traveling is no miracle cure, and mental health does not just go away like that. It is a constant battle, an ongoing process and something that gradually gets better. But for many, traveling could be just the thing needed to help and to make themselves feel much better. Its benefits are plentiful, and its psychological and physiological benefits are undeniable.

The U.S. Travel Assocation carried out a poll thats results found that travel also prevents dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, and that it helps people to live longer. Why? Because they are happier, more satisfied with life and have better moods than those who do not travel. Travel reduces stress, it provides an essential break from the often-exhausting routine. Just knowing that you have a trip planned can improve an individual’s sense of well-being, according to this study carried out by The University of Surrey. The study states that traveling impacts the individual’s overall well-being, stating that “it appears that those who are waiting to go on a holiday are much happier with their life as a whole, experience less negative or unpleasantfeelings and thus enjoy an overall net positive effect or pleasantfeelings.” (Gilbert, 2002).

Several all-inclusive hotels and some of the best Dominican Republic villa rentals attract over four million tourists each year. But what makes this nation covering eastern Hispaniola Island such an appealing spot for a holiday? Keep reading and find out all about traveling in the Dominican Republic.

There are beaches and incredible accommodation choices around the Dominican Republic, especially along the northern and eastern coast. But head a little further inland, and you’ll find mountains, rainforests, waterfalls, rivers and the Caribbean’s tallest peak: Pico Duarte at 3087 metres. Expect an abundance of wildlife, birds and marine creatures as you explore the island. When you combine everything, you have much more than a beach holiday in the sun.

Santo Domingo

The Dominican Republic’s capital, Santo Domingo, has several Spanish colonial buildings, churches and a cobblestoned historical centre. Santo Domingo is one of the oldest cities in the Caribbean founded in 1496 by Bartolome Colombus, Christopher Columbus’s brother. As you walk around, you’ll enjoy the façades and historical charm.

Damajaqua Waterfalls

If you’re into natural beauty, check out Damajaqua Waterfalls a short drive from Puerto Plato. A total of 27 waterfalls cascade over the rocky cliffs making it one of the Dominican Republic’s most famous attractions. Tourists and locals come to swim in one of the many pools to cool off in the afternoon heat while the braver ones climb up the rocks and dive down. If you want to enjoy the natural beauty for longer, follow the trails which will take you through the forests and along the canyons. Most people typically spend a few hours or more at Damajaqua Falls.

Delicious Food

The variety and styles of food combine the very best of Spanish, African and Creole flavours, which are available in all towns and cities at affordable prices. Many of the regional dishes have a staple of rice, meat and beans with various spices to give a mouth-wateringly good meal. Regardless of your budget, you’ll find everything from street food costing a few dollars all the way up the gourmet food served by the island’s best chefs. And it’s not just about the food. If you’re thirsty, grab a fresh coconut from one of the street side vendors for a refreshing drink that suits the tropical paradise you’re standing in.

Whale Watching

Península de Samaná on the eastern part of Dominican Republic hosts a special annual event captivating both tourists and locals alike. Migrating Humpback Whales, totalling around 2000, make their way to the warmer waters for reproduction between December and March. If you’re lucky, you may see the whales from the coastline. It’s also common to witness the gigantic creatures jumping out of the water. Males often sing hypnotic songs to attract mates that can you can hear on the land.

An Active Nightlife

The locals love to party, and holidaying tourists like to let their hair down and have a good time. Everything from beachside pubs to cocktail bars and nightclubs that stay open until dawn are all around the island. You can find anything from a relaxing place with an excellent view to an affordable place to drink with the locals. There are casinos and international standard restaurants around the city too.

Puerto Plata, the tourist hotspot, has a very active nightlife. The hotels and resorts often have bars with an adjoining nightclub and live entertainment for guests. If you don’t want to leave the resort, drinks and fun await inside the walls of the compound.

Paradise

Apart from the natural beauty, there’s another kind of splendour that attracts tourists and keeps them coming back to the Dominican Republic. And that’s the luxury and high standard of holidays. Some of the Caribbean’s best resorts, beachside vacation rentals along with great restaurants and romantic spots to watch the sunset are just a few of the highlights. The island caters to the wealthy who demand the very best. Tourists looking to have a luxury and unforgettable experience can find what they’re looking for here. Whether you want to spend your days lounging around your private pool or sipping cocktails on the beach, the Dominican Republic will have it.

The Locals

You’ll find friendly and smiling locals around the Dominican Republic from the waiter and hotel receptionist to the people relaxing on the beaches. Dominicans, both living in the tourist areas and rural parts of the island, tend to welcome visitors and have an infectious happy go lucky approach to life. It’s never too difficult to strike up a conversation with someone who’s usually more than glad to offer you tips, suggestions and listen to your stories.

The only downside is that not everyone speaks English. Most will talk decent English in the tourist parts. But when you venture further inland, the number is much less. Learn a few phrases in Spanish if you don’t already know some and make a smiling local smile even more when you make an effort with their language.

People Love the Dominican Republic

After reading this article, you should now know why so many people around the world want to take a holiday in the Dominican Republic. Natural beauty, beaches and hospitable locals combine with the excellent food, active nightlife and luxurious resorts to make the perfect travel destination. So why not join the millions of satisfied tourists and head here on your next family holiday?

A Beer Drinker’s Guide to NYC

November 14, 2017

In recent years, New York City has been growing it’s beer scene to new heights. With new craft beer locations and local breweries popping up all over the Big Apple, there’s so much to see (and drink) when it comes to exploring the best of the city’s bar scene. Whether you’re a beer drinking novice or a self-proclaimed pro, here’s what you need to know about drinking the best beer in New York City.

The Best Bars

It makes sense to start this guide with the best bars around the city where you can try some excellent craft beers. These bars are known as the NYC classics when it comes to beer, so you’re sure to find one that suits your specific beer-tastes.

The Blind Tiger

Opened in 1995, The Blind Tiger is a divey bar with big commitment to craft beer. Located on the Bleecker Street, this no-frills establishment knows the craft. There are over 28 taps dedicated specifically to craft beers, and you can also join them for several beer-themed events throughout the year.

Proletariat

If you’re looking to try some rare brews, you’ve got to visit Proletariat. The decor looks like something crossed between a dive bar and a gritty tattoo parlor, but somehow that only adds to the experience. With a rotating selection of only the rarest selection of beer and some of the best bartenders in the city, this is an East Village staple for beer connoisseurs. The only warning is that this place is pretty small, and can get crowded quickly. Visit on off-times like during weeknights or Sunday afternoons to get a more personal experience.

SingleCut Beersmiths

If you’re in a crunch for time and want to combine the experience of visiting a brewery and a taproom, SingleCut Beersmiths is the place. With guided tours where you can sample their latest brews, this place is a hot spot. They even have live music most nights of the week. Located in Astoria, SingleCut Beersmiths is one of the best hidden gems in the city.

The Well

The Well has more selections than any person could dream of trying in their lifetime. They have over 40 beers on tap alone, but it doesn’t stop there with over 150 bottled and canned options. The Well used to be a brewery before being turned into a taproom, and it’s open space looks like it belongs to another time. This is a great place to bring friends who aren’t quite open to your developed taste in beers, since there are a lot of familiar choices for them to choose from.

Hops Hill

Hops Hill isn’t for the average beer drinker. With a tag line like “Strictly craft,” you know you’re going to get quality at this Brooklyn bar. They feature many local brews on tap like Threes and Other Half, but they also have a giant bottle list with almost 200 selections. The best thing about Hops Hill is their weekly happy hour with some great selections for an even greater price.

Beer Events

Everyone should experience one of NYC’s beer festivals at least once in their life. It’s a great chance to mingle with like-minded beer drinkers, and even learn a thing or two about your favorite brews.

NYC Craft Beer Fest

Hosted every year in November, the NYC Craft Beer Fest is just like it’s name sounds. With several days of beer drinking excitement, entry to the festival gives you access to tastes of all the up-and-coming breweries around New York and beyond! Buy your ticket early since these sell out quickly.

Five Boro Craft Beer Festival

The Five Boro Craft Beer Festival is the best time to try some local flavor while enjoying food and live music from local restaurants and vendors. It’s more than a beer festival, it’s an experience. You’ll get the chance to sample beer that hasn’t even been released yet as well as over 50 craft beers from the area.

The best way to drink in NYC

NYC has a large drinking culture, and there are a lot of ways to experience the best of the local bars and events. If you’re visiting NYC for the first time, you’ll want to first explore the sights and local areas before stepping foot in the best bars. To burn off some calories before drinking the night away, bikerentalcentralpark.com offers tours of Central Park during the day! Or explore the local neighborhood by foot to spot the best drinking holes before a night on the town! However you choose to experience NYC, you’ll surely acknowledge it’s home to some of the best beer selections in the world!

The Benefits of Hiring a Professional Catering Service

November 7, 2017

As you know, my brother and I love to travel and drink beer from all over the world. But, we also like to throw parties, events and group dinners when we are home from traveling. Although professional caterers are quite pricey, you should still opt for their services over other options. This is true especially for big events like weddings, fundraisers or corporate activities. You want only the best food to be served during these events. Here are some more reasons why it is in your best interest to hire professional caterers to do the job.

Experience

They have been around for a long time. They know what to do during such events. Some of them even cater several events in one week. They also know how to handle guests and not just provide them with something to eat. It is like asking an entire restaurant staff to come over to the venue to serve all the guests. Even guests with special requests when it comes to food will be handled well.

Skill

These companies have the ability to serve hundreds of guests at once. From the number of employees to the cooking equipment, they have everything ready. They also have systems and procedures in place to make sure that they meet deadlines. You won’t have to worry about the food being cooked in time for lunch or dinner. They have a clear checklist that guides them from the start until the food is served.

Complete package

Professional catering companies have connections. They have worked with photographers, videographers, bakers and florists. If you contact them for food catering and you don’t want to keep searching for other services, let them handle all aspects of the event. They have the best recommendations. They have worked closely with different people over the years, so they will give you the best services. You just have to contact them and inform them of your requirements. This will make the tasks a lot easier for you.

Safety

You are guaranteed that these professional caterers will prioritise safety above everything else. They will choose freshly picked ingredients. They won’t settle for low quality meat or vegetables. They even have contingencies in place if something unexpected happens. They will handle everything well from buying the ingredients up until the dishes are delivered to the venue. The overall quality of the food will be preserved, and your guests will be totally satisfied.

You can find quality catering companies Dublin offers if you are in the area. Start searching now as some of them have very strict requirements when it comes to reservations. There are others that will only accept reservations at least a month before an event. If you are satisfied with the catering service you finally choose, you can also use them in the future for other big events that you organise.

The Best Of Ireland’s Beer- Stout, Ale and Porter

October 31, 2017

Each year around Saint Patrick’s Day, everyone seems to act a little bit Irish. It does not matter whether or not you prefer a dry or deep amber ale or a full-bodied and delicious stout, you’ll be sure to find some old favorites listed below along with some new favorites. It is said that the Irish people are very quick to be hospitable and easy to meet.

When in Ireland, it’s easy and fun to stop in at a local pub for a pint. You don’t need a lot of money to enjoy a little bit of Irish fun and beer. If you are short on cash and looking for a way to pay for your trip to the pub or local beer spot, consider title loans in Miami. A title loan is an easy way to get fast money when you need it. The best thing about these types of loans is that you can use the money for anything you want.

Three Classic Stouts

Typically in Ireland, the beer is black all year round. This is because they are dry, Blessed Trinity by Guinness, Beamish and Murphy’s. The beers are poured into the glasses slowly in order to allow for the creamy head to form. These three types of beers are meant to signify Eire as Celtic crosses and Shamrocks. Guinness is considered the best known black beer throughout the world and considered the standard to which all types of stouts are judged. Others might suggest that the beer’s character has been dulled over the last 10 years or so. No matter what your view is, however, it is still a very dry and appetizing kind of beer. The pitch-black complex and color is almost wine like in aroma. It seems to be dry enough for oysters and yet robust enough to be enjoyed with cheese dishes and meat.

Red Ales

All of Ireland’s most popular beers are not uniformly black. They also have a celebrated Irish Red Ale as well. Globally, this one is best known as Smithwick’s. It is a faintly caramel and toasty ale from the same people who brew Guinness beer. The recipe that is sold in the United States is brewed a little bit differently than how it is in Ireland. Still so, it continues to be a much more robust beer over other Irish Red beers. America also brews their fair share of Irish style beer. Finnegans Irish Amber, as an example, may not be as complex or full-bodied as the true Irish ale. However, the profits from it go to many community outreach projects for the homeless or working poor in Minnesota.

Pairing Food With Beer

There are tons of amazing beers from around the world, but traditional Irish food is very delicious and rustic when you combine quality ingredients with the right Irish ale to complement those dishes. Some of the tastiest salmon in the world is typically fished off the Irish Coast and then smoked in the south. When used as an appetizer, it goes well with a nice glass of cool, not cold, dry Irish Stout. Many will partner potato-based side dishes such a savory griddle bread with a bottle or more of caramel-like, gently sweet Irish Red Ale. A good helping of hearty Irish stew could also benefit from a nice mixture of both ale and stout called Black and Tan. If you are thinking about dessert, consider the sweeter stout to compliment things such as chocolate cake and chocolate mousse.

5 Money-Saving Tips for Gigging Musicians on a Shoestring Budget

October 28, 2017

The idea of being a starving artist for the sake of your art might seem romantic; however, the reality of being a struggling musician can definitely be stressful.

For those who want to gig full time or make the dream of becoming a professional musician a reality, a tight budget is most definitely the norm. This is especially true if you’re just starting out.

Thankfully, there are smart ways that musicians can keep more money in their pockets without sacrificing their sounds or their well-beings. With the following five tips in mind, you can make your rockstar aspirations a reality without blowing out your budget.

Harness the Power of “Free”

Despite popular belief, you don’t need to constantly buy new gear and effects in pursuit of new sounds. Sure, there might be a particular pedal or synth that you want to add to your arsenal; however, don’t neglect the free files and plugins out there. Especially when recordings, libraries and effects packs like the ultimate list of free Foley sound effects are out there specifically for musicians looking to save few bucks.

Hitch Rides with Fellow Musicians

Getting from Point A to Point B can be rough when you’re gigging with a bunch of gear that can weigh down your vehicle and ruin your gas mileage. As a result, carpooling with other musicians whether you’re going across town or across the country is a brilliant move where everyone wins. Not only do you save money by having everyone chip in for gas, but you also guarantee that everyone gets to the gig on time.

Be Willing to Part with Your Old Gear

Many musicians tend to hoard their gear due to sentimental value. But ask yourself: do you really need three or four synths that achieve the same function? Is the guitar gathering dust in your closet really necessary? Parting with old instruments is easy given the various places you can sell old gear and score quick cash as a result.

Beg and Borrow

Finally, consider one of the benefits of having good relationships with other musicians in your area: being able to exchange gear. Perhaps there’s a particular amp that you need for a bigger gig or there’s someone in your network that needs to borrow one of your mics for a recording session. If you have friends that are musicians, such exchanges are no big deal.

Positive relationships can help you save as you don’t have to splurge on new gear. As long as there’s a mutual sense of trust and respect for your gear, you’re golden.

Take Advantage of Word of Mouth

Oftentimes the best advertising you can do for yourself as a musician is totally free. Take advantage of unique music marketing strategies and the power of social media to score more gigs and put yourself in front of a bigger audience. If you aren’t serially sharing and “liking” fellow musicians’ work on Soundcloud and YouTube to get new eyes on your work, for example, what are you waiting for?

Just because you’re a full-time musician doesn’t mean that you need to make a ton of sacrifices to make ends meet. Instead, consider these tips as must-do’s to ensure that you’re being smart about where your money goes and that none of your hard-earned cash from gigging is wasted.

Is There A Trend Of Marijuana-Infused Liquids? Wine, Beer, Fruit Drinks?

October 27, 2017

Before weed started to become mainstream, the only way to really get a buzz was through alcohol (at least in a more public setting). However, now that marijuana is fast becoming normalized, it’s only natural that people will want to start combining the two. We are living in a transitional period for cannabis, with weed delivery and marijuana-infused beverages slowly turning into legitimate ventures. But how does this infusion work? Let’s take a sip.

What Kinds of Drinks are Being Infused?

Now that cannabis is more widely available, people are experimenting with it in a wide variety of ways. In addition to alcohol and beer, you can find weed in coffee, hot cocoa, juice, and even soft drinks. It seems that no matter what you drink, you can put a little weed in it. In fact, that sounds like a great slogan to us.

How Effective Is It?

At first, you may think that any amounts of weed in your beverage would be trace, right? Well, it turns out that it can be just as effective as any other method of ingestion. While most people think of edibles (pot brownies, Rice Krispy treats, etc.) as the go-to method for those who don’t smoke, it appears that drinking your weed is just as viable.

In fact, when compared to edibles, cannabis drinks can be even more potent and efficient. One of the issues for infused food is consistency. Some parts of the product may have more of an effect than others, and it’s impossible to tell until after the fact. However, with beverages, you get a more even distribution, and all it takes is a little shake.

Bottom Line

Gone are the days where you have to take a hit of medical cannabis along with a shot to get the pleasure of both drugs. Now, you can order a weed-infused cocktail and get the ball rolling. With such variety, coupled with marijuana delivery near me, you can get buzzed so much easier than ever before.
