Jazz Up Your Campfire Pow-Wow with These Great Camping Cocktails

July 18, 2018

Jazz Up Your Campfire Pow-Wow with These Great Camping Cocktails

Bring a 12-pack of beer is a given when you’re going camping. But, what if you want something with a little more punch? Here’s a collection of our favorite camping cocktails that’ll make your camping trip a little more fun!

Don’t you love the crackling of a campfire? The radiating heat and the warm glow it gives people’s faces? What if you could add an awesome camping cocktail to that mix?

You’re probably thinking, I don’t want to bring my whole bar cart to the tent! It’s heavy!

We’ve thought that through. All the cocktails on our list use three ingredients max and we did our best to pick versatile mixers. With lemonade, beer, and whiskey you’ve got options for two drinks.

Learn how you can stretch that to make three camping cocktails below.

The Summer Shandy

What’s better than a beer? A glass of beer and a refreshing glass of lemonade at the same time.

Enter, the Summer Shandy. It’s not as acidic as mixing lemonade with hard liquor and you get the carbonation of the beer.

Bring the beer and the bottle of lemonade along in your cooler. The kids can have lemonade while the grownups get fancy. Learn more!

The best beers to pair with lemonade are light ales, light IPAs, or Pilsners. Don’t try it with the powder mix-in. Spring for a bottle of nice premixed lemonade, stored by the juices.

An Old Fashioned

When choosing the drinks for this list, we thought, “what is the least we have to carry?” You don’t need much to make an old-fashioned!

A small bottle of bitters, sugar, bourbon, water. You were bringing water and sugar anyway.

The Maple Leaf

If you can’t decide between these two, there’s a third drink that you can make with lemonade and bourbon. A maple leaf!

Pour a shot or so of bourbon, mix with twice the amount of lemonade and add maple syrup on top. If you didn’t bring any maple, sugar or honey will also do.

That’s three drinks you can make, without bringing extra ingredients for the third.

A Hot Toddy

What’s better than hot tea around the campfire or fireplace (we like glamping). All you need for a hot toddy is tea and whiskey.

We like a sweet or citrus tea, like lemon ginger or anything with apple. Boil the water first, steep the tea and add your whiskey at the end.

If you want to be fancy, add a cinnamon stick for stirring/garnish. If you have fruit on hand, squeeze a little juice into the mug.

Whiskey Coke

Yes, this simple and classic drink travels well! All you need are cans of coke (or bottles) and whiskey.

For less trash to take care of and pack-out, don’t even bother with a cup. Drink some of the coke and pour the whiskey in. Pour it slowly to keep the carbonation from overflowing.

It mixes in the can and you have the whiskey on-hand for a hot toddy. To reduce what you have to carry, even more, tape the tea bag (find the kind that are individually wrapped) to your coke can.

Now you have everything you need for two drinks in one place. Leave the straw at home though, the less trash you bring into the campsite the better!

You need to pack out what you pack in, so save yourself the effort.

Whiskey Ginger

You should always have a ginger ale on hand, it’s a cure for just about anything. Ginger is an ancient remedy for headaches, nausea, upset stomachs – it’s nature’s Pepto Bismol.

You can also mix ginger ale with almost anything. Lemonade, orange juice, anything sweet.

Whiskey and ginger ale? A winning combination.

And, it’s one other can you have to bring with you, instead of a few different things to mix with.

You can use the same trick of mixing it in-can to reduce trash and possible pollution.

Fewer dishes to carry and clean at home too!

Berry Smash

Are you camping somewhere you can pick berries in the wild? Make sure they’re berries you recognize before you try them!

If you happen upon a blackberry or blueberry bush, pick some and wash them off with bottled water.

Then squeeze them into an empty bottle, squishing them a little as you go. Add some sugar or honey and some whiskey. Maybe some ginger ale for good measure.

Put the cap on and shake until everything is well mixed. Using your camping knife, slice open the bottle so the berries can escape. You don’t want that deliciousness stuck in the bottleneck!

Pour and serve. It’ll be nice and frothy from shaking and summer-sweet from the berries. What could be better?

Camping Coffee

You don’t need a fancy cream-based bottle of Baileys to make your camping mornings great. All you need is a little whiskey.

Put a few dashes in your coffee in the morning and see how well it warms you up!

Obviously don’t over do it if you’re going on a hike or doing anything physical. You can’t be tripping over rocks or making drunk decisions in dangerous circumstances.

That stands for all the drinks on this list. It’s nice to relax, but your safety comes first.

Camping Cocktails

When you’re planning a camping trip, make sure you bring what you need for water and food first. Your hydration is very important when you’re in the wilderness.

Alcohol dehydrates you so make sure you have a serving of water for all the camping cocktails you throw down.

Create as little trash as you can and reuse what you bring. Like our tips about mixing your cocktails in-can!

It’s all about having the most fun and leaving the least evidence that you were there.

See ya out there!

Your Ride Based On Your Beer Choice

July 18, 2018

Your choice in beer says a lot about your personality. For example, someone who enjoys a hardy porter would most likely be bold and sophisticated. What people don’t know is that your choice in beer, based on popular opinion opposed to that of the IDG: Independent Drivers Guild in NY, helps dictates your car choice.

You don’t need to take a defensive driving course online to figure out which beer would represent your ideal car choice. You might be a professional in identifying types of beers, but you might not know what that says about your car. While we’re putting the two words together in the same sentence, it’s a good reminder to never drink and drive. Below we a guide to your ride based on your beer choice.

IPA

India Pale Ales are a hoppier style of beer. Popular amongst young millennials and members of garage bands, the IPA is a distinct choice. That’s why IPA drinkers will often associate themselves with driving a crossover. Everyone knows that hatchbacks are the hoppiest cars on the market.

Lager

The lager is among the most popular beers consumed by drinkers. Its light body is alluring, and the taste is even more so. If you’re drinking a lager, then you probably drive SUV. The SUV car class is one the most popular on the roads. You have the Escape, CR-V, and Cherokee all part of America’s favorite types of cars. The perfect representation of America’s favorite beer.

Stout

Stouts are dark beers with a high ABV made from roasted malts. They’re a popular choice for people who want to show their love for strong beers. That’s why you will see stout drinkers gravitate to pick-up trucks. Not because pick-up trucks represent strength, but because pick-up trucks can carry more malts to be roasted for their stouts. What we’re saying is that stouts are so good, you’ll want to make your own.

Ale

Ale is a sweeter and fruitier beer with a warm body. Drank by people who enjoy a full-body flavor and Vikings looking for battle, Ale is another popular beer choice among drinkers. If you’re drinking an ale, you’ll most likely be driving a sedan, such as a Ford Focus. Compact, fuel efficient vehicles equipped with smart technology is the perfect representation of a drink that’s sweeter in taste. That’s because sedans are sweet.

Wheat Beer

Wheat beers are made with, you guessed it, heavy wheat proportions. This results in a drink that’s consider a “white beer.” Its body is lighter and delicious – like a lager. Which is coincidentally why someone who drives a crossover. Crossovers are the lighter and delicious version of cars – like a SUV, but not quite.

Pilsner

Pilsners are a type of Pale Lager – also known as a blond lager. Its color can range from light to dark gold. That’s why Pilsner drinkers would drive a convertible car. Pilsners have light tastes and bitterness, which is exactly what you would get from driving a convertible around. They’re great, but the maintenance on those things will leave you feeling bitter.

Porter

Porters have a deep history with stouts. Porters tend to be not as strong as stouts – in fact, stouts were created because they were a stronger porter. That’s why people who drink a lot of porters are big fans of hybrid vehicles. They love the efficiency and gas mileage hybrid vehicles get, because they love the mileage they can get on series of delicious porters. You’re also saving the planet!

EIN: The Most Important Component Of Your New Business

July 17, 2018

An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a unique number assigned by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Also referred to as a Federal Tax ID Number, it’s similar to a Social Security Number, and is used to identify a business. The best way to apply for a Federal Tax ID Number is online. The IRS EIN Tax ID website provides business owners with a simplified application process to increase accuracy to avoid rejection from the IRS.

An EIN and Your Business

Without an EIN, there would be several things that your business would not be able to do. This includes file and pay taxes, apply for business credit or loans, open a business bank account, have employees, or apply for certain business licenses. It is important to apply for an EIN as soon as you begin planning your business. By doing so, this ensures there are no delays in obtaining needed financing or appropriate licenses needed to begin operations.

Safe, Fast, and Simple

The fastest way to apply for an Estate Tax ID Number is online via the IRS EIN Tax ID website. On the IRS EIN Tax ID website, there are only three simple steps to complete. First, choose the type of entity you are applying for, such as Limited Liability Company (LLC), Partnership, or Corporation. Next, enter all the needed information on the easy secure application. Lastly, submit the application. You will receive your EIN number within the next hour via your email address. However, there may be a slight delay to the next business day when applying after hours.

The application center at the IRS EIN Tax ID website is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and does not shut down, unlike the IRS website. Friendly and knowledgeable Gov’t Assist agents are available to help you in this process.

Geometric prints are trending this year and are a great option if you’re not fond of polka dot prints, stripey prints or floral prints and are interested in decorating your home with bold prints.

If you’re interested in incorporating geometric prints into your home, you may want to consider using geometric patterned tiles in order to create a head-turning backsplash for your kitchen, or purchasing a rug for your bedroom, study or lounge which boasts a fun geometric print.

Alternatively, if you like the idea of creating a feature wall, you may want to cover one wall in your lounge with wallpaper which boasts a geometric print.

  1. Sun-bleached wood

Sun-bleached pieces of wood furniture such as coffee tables, bookshelves, desks and dining tables are trending this year, so if you like the look of faded wood furniture, it’s well worth shopping around for a piece of sun-bleached wood.

  1. Stylish bronze light fixtures

If you’re looking to add a touch of modern glamor to your home’s interior decor, you may want to consider purchasing bronze light fixtures for your lounge, kitchen, study, and bedroom. If you’re interested in experimenting with a black color scheme, you may want to try placing a few black leather cushions on a black sofa and then draping a black mink style blanket over your black sofa. If you’re feeling particularly brave, you may also want to consider painting the wall behind your black sofa black. For a chic black on black on black vibe.

As an example, if you want your lounge to look more spacious than it actually is, you can give the illusion of your lounge being even larger than it is by placing a large metallic framed mirror on one of your lounge’s walls.

Alternatively, you may want to consider purchasing a coffee table or chairs which boast metallic leg if you want to try the metallic furniture trend, without making a huge statement!

Tiny Home, Huge Benefits: Top 8 Benefits of Tiny Homes

June 27, 2018

Tiny Home, Huge Benefits: Top 8 Benefits of Tiny Homes

Living in a space that’s small and cramped, why would anyone do that? While tiny homes may be small in size, they offer huge benefits. Read on to learn about the top eight.

The tiny house movement has been growing in strength for the last decade.

Some people love them. Some people think they’re a little crazy. Most though, don’t understand the many benefits that come from living tiny.

Read on to find out eight of the most important benefits of tiny homes.

1. Save Money

Tiny homes cost a fraction of the price of traditional homes. Most tiny homes fall somewhere between 100 and 400 square feet. This requires far fewer materials than a 1200 to 3000 square foot house.

Tiny homes can cost as little as $23,000 if you do most of the labor yourself. With the median price of homes in the U.S. close to $200,000, this is a substantial saving.

2. Get Out of Debt

By cutting your housing expenses so drastically it becomes much easier to pay down debt. Tiny living also encourages less spending.

Simply put, it’s hard to find room for more stuff when your house is only 200 square feet.

3. Declutter and Simplify

The size of a tiny house only allows the most essential and prized possessions. The old saying, a place for everything and everything in its place, really applies to tiny living.

This is great for many tiny dwellers as it gives them the motivation to declutter and simplify their lives.

4. Improve Your Habits

It’s really hard to be a messy person and live in a tiny home. Living tiny requires that you learn to live with only what you need to be happy.

You learn to buy less and clean up after yourself. Leaving a mess for later isn’t possible when your home is one small area.

5. Save Time

While it is important to clean in a tiny house, doing so is much easier. The tiny space means cleaning up only takes a few minutes a day.

Fewer clothes equal less laundry. Single meal cleaning makes dishes a breeze.

6. Tiny Homes Decrease Your Carbon Footprint

One of the biggest reasons people are drawn to tiny homes is how environmentally friendly they are. Tiny homes use a fraction of the materials a regular home requires.

They’re usually built with very high insulation and water use standards as well.

7. Location Independence

Many tiny dwellers choose to go with tiny homes on wheels. This allows you to move your home wherever you need to go.

With a tiny house, you’re free to travel or accept a job across the country.

8. Build for Quality

Because tiny homes are so small they can be built with the best materials available. Highly efficient insulation, heating and cooling, beautiful paneling, and high-end fixtures are all available.

You can build and decorate the home of your dreams and still find yourself spending less than on a mediocre apartment.

Improve Your Life

Choosing to go tiny is a big decision. Living in tiny homes isn’t for everyone, but for those willing to take the leap it’s clear there are plenty of benefits.

If you would like to find more ways to improve your life and increase your happiness, check out some of these other interesting articles.

Dealing with Stress While Travelling

June 10, 2018

Whether you’re a traveller, an entrepreneur or just living your day-to-day life, stress can be a regular occurrence. However, for those of us who spend weeks or even months at a time in a foreign country, feeling a little stressed can turn into our natural state of being.

I’m no stranger to this feeling. Even with meditation, yoga and a morning jog, there have been times where the stress can seem overwhelming, particularly when I’m away and don’t have my normal support networks or creature comforts to help wind down.

Often, our main source of stress comes from fear. Fear of the unknown, failure, or even just being away from those we love for extended periods. However, as the famous saying goes, everything worth having is on the other side of fear. Being able to overcome this feeling can not only help you with your stress levels, but it can bring a whole world of benefits into your life. In the case of travelling, this is almost literally the case.

When you feel stressed, take a quick moment to ask yourself what exactly is stressing you out. Is it the distance from your friends and family? Is it a worry that something will happen to you (or to them) while you’re away? Or is it just a fear of the unknown. Digging deep and finding the root cause of your stress can help you to minimise or even eliminate it, particularly if you can take steps to address what’s making you feel uncomfortable or fearful. Try talking to someone, whether it’s the people you’re travelling with or your friends and family at home. Their feedback can be invaluable, and can have a major impact when it comes to addressing what’s upsetting you.

Travel is meant to be fun, rewarding and to expand your horizons, but it’s natural that you can encounter stress or anxiety while you’re away. The key isn’t avoiding the feelings altogether, but learning to highlight the root cause of them, and to manage them along the way.

Building a Fire in a Brick Oven

June 7, 2018

Gas powered ovens have made baking and cooking dishes – especially pizza – a lot easier and faster. With just a flick of a switch, you can heat it up in just minutes. But it will not give you the extra smoky and aromatic taste that a wood fired pizza oven provides. Although it takes a lot longer to fire up this type of oven, the results are better than cooking in a gas powered one. So how long do you really have to take to fire up a wood fired oven?

Place the fire starters and hardwood

Make sure to use odourless and non-toxic fire starters, as they will affect the taste and aroma of the food. You will only need one or two pieces, as well as about eight sticks of dry kindling. About two to three pieces of hardwood such as oak and birch are all you need to start a fire. You can use a torch to start the fire if you don’t want to spend so much time lighting it with a lighter.

Add more wood

When the fire has caught, add two to three more pieces of wood so that the fire can evenly reach the centre and front of the oven, but without lapping out of the oven. As the fire continues to burn, add some more wood to establish a steady fire. After twenty minutes, you should notice the top of the oven dome turning white and continuing to extend outwards to both sides of the oven. Once the inside of the oven has turned white, it is indicative that the desired temperature has been reached.

Ready to cook

About 45 minutes after starting the fire, the oven should be ready for cooking. You can now put the pizza to be cooked, for about 3 to 5 minutes. For other cooking techniques such as baking and roasting, wait for the fire to burn out and let the oven cool for a few minutes before putting in bread, chicken and other food.

Positioning the wood to the side

There is a good reason why wood should be placed on the sides of the oven and not at the back. Besides distributing heat to the centre of the oven evenly, you can also see the pizza or any other food you are cooking better when the fire is on the sides.

Patience is key when cooking using a wood fired oven. Clean up can also be a chore; the ashes and embers should be got rid of before the next use. The chimney – although not required to be cleaned every time the oven is used – should also be maintained to ensure the smoke comes out freely.

Thanks to modern technological advancement, these hidden or spy cameras come in many different designs. These cameras are not complicated to operate and they are an advantage and useful for many reasons.

The hidden security cameras are not like the CCTV cameras we see in public places that are visible to anyone. With the amount of child abuse reports and thefts, it is advisable to invest in spy cameras for security surveillance of your home. Especially for parents who leave their little ones to the care givers while they go to work. With a hidden indoor security camera system, you can monitor the movements of the care giver and situation in your home as and whenever convenient to you.

These day parents are not taking chances with the safety of their little ones left in the care of maids while they are at work. They feel more at peace when they are able to monitor the situation in their home and what happens to their little ones or elderly parents in the hands of care givers while they are not at home. The spy cameras and the video recordings will provide hard evidence if there is any sign of abuse or negligence on the part of the care givers.

Investing in a spy camera for home system will also enable to discover any negative or illegal activities by anyone of your family members or workers. Sometimes, thefts could be committed by those who are familiar with the ins and outs of your house. The culprit or culprits will not know of the existence of a hidden camera.
