10 Best Snorkeling Destinations in Europe You Have to Check Out

September 29, 2018

Europe may not be the first place you think of when it comes to snorkeling destinations, but there are a lot of great places to snorkel here. Read on to learn the top 10.

When you think about the best snorkeling destinations in the world, Europe is probably not the first place that comes to mind.

The majority of the countries in Europe are landlocked and feature very little in terms of snorkeling opportunities. But believe it or not, there are more than a few incredible snorkeling spots in Europe despite the continent’s limitations.

If you’re planning to take a trip to Europe sometime soon and you love snorkeling, consider making a stop at these snorkeling destinations to see what they’re all about. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by what Europe has to offer to all the avid snorkelers out there.

Here are 10 European snorkeling destinations worth checking out.

1. Cabrera Archipelago National Park in Spain

Once upon a time, Cabrera Archipelago National Park was home to a prison camp. It was just about the last place you would want to visit to do any snorkeling.

But these days, it’s the perfect place to sneak away to when you’re posted up in Spain. It boasts a well-preserved seabed and crystal-clear waters that will allow you to enjoy a fun snorkeling adventure.

In the waters that surround the park, you’ll find everything from gorgeous rock formations to caves that are worth exploring. You’ll also find an eclectic collection of fish and other marine life.

One thing worth noting is that the park is a protected environment. This means that you won’t be able to just show up and start snorkeling. But as long as you’re willing to book a tour in advance, it’s one of the best snorkeling destinations throughout all of Spain and, to a larger degree, all of Europe.

2. Isola Rossa in Italy

Situated on the north coast of an Italian island called Sardinia, Isola Rossa was a fishing village when it was first founded. But over the last few decades, it has developed into a seaside resort for tourists looking to escape the crowds on the Italian mainland.

It has also developed into a great place for snorkelers to congregate thanks to the sandy beaches and clear water that surround Sardinia. From the moment you put your full face snorkel mask into the water, you’ll be surrounded by nothing but beauty.

There are all kinds of fish swimming below the surface in Isola Rossa. But moray eels have become the most popular attraction for those who enjoy snorkeling.

3. Coco Beach in France

Coco Beach is located in the city of Nice, which has actually become a very industrialized city over time. The beach is not far from a major port that is almost always hustling and bustling.

But the nice thing about Nice is that it offers places like Coco Beach where people can go to escape the industrialization that has reshaped the city in many ways. It’s ideal for those who want to do some snorkeling in the middle of their French getaway.

If you’d like, Nice offers a wide range of snorkeling companies that will take you out and show you all there is to see in the brilliant blue waters off the coast of the city. But if you’re more of a do-it-yourselfer, you can get away with exploring all the coves that are situated right off the coast on your own.

The one thing you’ll want to be mindful of is that the waters near Nice are usually active and filled with boats, Jet Skis, and more. But as long as you keep an eye and ear out, you shouldn’t have any trouble snorkeling in peace.

4. Columbretes Island in Spain

Spain has a handful of excellent snorkeling destinations thanks to its close proximity to the Mediterranean Sea. You can go up and down the coast of the country and find many different places to snorkel in the sea.

Columbretes Island will prove to be one of the most attractive options. It includes a handful of islets that are completely uninhabited and untouched by human beings.

Making your way to Columbretes Island can be a bit challenging. But once you’re there, you can have an entire beach to yourself if you want. You can also swim in the waters off the coast of the island and see many species of fish and other marine life.

As an added bonus, the island also features lots of hiking trails that will allow you to experience everything it has to offer. You’ll likely see just as many animals on the island as you see fish off the coast of it.

5. Ghar Lapsi in Malta

Do you want to find a snorkeling destination that the whole family can enjoy? Look no further than Ghar Lapsi, which is a fishing port that features natural pools with shallow water.

When you’re not splashing around in the natural pools, you can strap on your snorkeling gear and swim up and down the rocky shoreline of Ghar Lapsi to see everything that’s swimming around. The water is always clear and will allow you to witness the movement of fish and more.

Your entire family will have a blast snorkeling in Ghar Lapsi.

6. Paphos in Cyprus

While Ghar Lapsi is a great place to snorkel if you’re still a beginner, Paphos is not ideal for those who aren’t experienced with snorkeling. It’s better for those who know what they’re doing when they’re out in the water.

The best place to snorkel in Paphos is near the Paphos Lighthouse where there are lots of rock formations underwater. Those formations attract fish, crabs, and more.

The problem you’ll face is that the waters near the Paphos Lighthouse can get rough at certain times of the day. It’s not uncommon to see waves crashing down on the shoreline in the area.

But those waves are actually what has helped develop the rock formations. As long as you’re prepared to deal with them, you’ll enjoy snorkeling in Paphos.

7. Medes Island in Spain

Another snorkeling spot in the Mediterranean Sea? You bet. And it’s one of the most popular snorkeling spots in the Sea, at that.

Back in 2010, Medes Island earned the distinction of being declared a protected park. As a result, the island is virtually untouched and offers some of the most beautiful views both in and out of the water that you’ll find in Spain.

The shoreline is very rocky, which prevents swimmers, fishermen, and those with boats from spending much time in the water. But it offers the perfect opportunity for those who enjoy snorkeling.

You can find all kinds of cool fish in the waters off Medes Island. But a couple of the most popular kinds are barracudas and giant groupers.

8. Rusalka in Bulgaria

Generally speaking, snorkeling in the Black Sea is not much fun. Sediment gets kicked up and makes it tough to see anything.

But if you make your way into the waters of the Black Sea off the coast of Bulgaria on a nice day, you can catch some incredible sights.

There isn’t much in terms of marine life in the Black Sea, but you will see dolphins swimming around in it every now and then. If you’re lucky, you’ll also be able to see some of the shipwrecks in the area.

To explore those wrecks, you’ll obviously need to strap on SCUBA gear to take a better look.

But as long as the water isn’t too cloudy, you can get a glimpse at the wrecks from the surface while snorkeling.

9. Makarska in Croatia

Croatia is not necessarily a place you want to visit specifically for snorkeling. But if you happen to be in Croatia vacationing and have the chance to do it, snorkeling in Makarska will present you with a unique opportunity.

Makarska sits on the Adriatic Sea, which has springs in its seabed that send fresh water out into the sea. That fresh water allows some interesting plants to grow at the bottom of the sea.

One of the things you’ll likely spot while snorkeling in Makarska is the Golden Sponge. You’ll also come across corals, octopuses, seahorses, and more. It’ll open your eyes to what Croatia has to offer as far as snorkeling is concerned.

10. Plage de La Palud in France

Plage de La Palud sits in Port-Cros National Park, which is the oldest marine park situated along the Mediterranean Sea. It’s home to hundreds of different types of fish and will provide you with a memorable snorkeling experience.

The great thing about snorkeling in Plage de La Palud is that there are specific areas designated for snorkeling that are marked off with buoys. Each of these buoys contains information about the things you’ll find underwater. You can read the info underwater to learn about marine life in the area.

Book a Trip to One or More of These Snorkeling Destinations Today

As you can see, you shouldn’t sleep on the snorkeling destinations in Europe. While some of them are off the beaten path, they’re just as incredible as the snorkeling destinations you’ll find in other parts of the world.

How to prepare for a trip abroad: Everything you need to consider!

September 14, 2018

Before you step foot onto an international flight, continue reading to discover everything you need to consider in order to prepare yourself for an overseas trip.

How to prepare for a trip abroad: Everything you need to consider

1. Make sure to search for online reviews on your shortlist of accommodation options

Before you use your credit card to prebook your accommodation, it’s well worth searching a hotel review site such as Trip Advisor to see how travelers like yourself, found each of your shortlisted accommodation options. As often the photos on a hotel’s website can be misleading, so it pays to do your research and to choose a hotel or resort which boast glowing reviews from dozens of satisfied travelers.

2. Make sure to organize a rental car

If you like the idea of being able to explore your destination by car and don’t want to be reliant on cabs or public transportation, it’s well worth hiring a rental car for the duration of your trip abroad. As you’ll be able to treat yourself to day trips and drive to some of the attractions, activities, and restaurants which you’ve reached prior to your trip. Remember to look out for car rental discounts to save yourself some money for the rest of your travels as well.

3. Make sure to pack the appropriate travel adapters so that you’ll be able to charge your electronic devices whilst you’re overseas

In order to be able to charge your smartphone, tablet, and laptop you’ll need to pack a travel adapter to plug your devices into. As different parts of the world use different types of power sockets and the electronic equipment which you pack from home is unlikely to be compatible with the power sockets which you’ll find overseas.

4. Make sure to call your credit card companies to inform them of your upcoming trip

It’s well worth calling your credit card companies to tell them about your upcoming trip and the amounts of money which you plan to spend over the duration of your overseas trip as if the last thing you want is for one of your credit card companies to put a stop on your primary credit card when you’re out of the country due to what their systems may identify as being suspicious activity.

If you do notify your credit companies about your upcoming trip, you shouldn’t have any problems using your credit card whilst you’re overseas!

5. Find out whether you require a specific visa to enter your destination

Some countries such as China and Russia require foreign nationals to apply for pre-approved visas, in order to enter their borders. So it’s definitely worth finding out whether or not you need to pre-apply for any visas before you book your next plane ticket overseas.

6. Make sure to pack any medications which you may require whilst you’re overseas

If you take medication on a regular basis, make sure that you have enough medication to last you for your entire trip. As it may be hard to source the same medication overseas. If your current prescription won’t provide you with enough medication for your trip, simply talk to your doctor about your upcoming trip.

So it’s definitely well worth considering all of the 6 posts listed above if you’re currently preparing yourself for a trip abroad!

8 Things You Need to Know Before Taking a Caribbean Vacation

September 11, 2018

The Caribbean has so many natural wonders to offer. But before you take a vacation in the Caribbean, here are some things you should know.

Are you dreading the harsh winter that lies ahead? Book a tropical Caribbean vacation and get away from the cold and snow.

What better way to end the year than with some sun and good old vitamin sea? Not only will you get to escape the cold, but you’ll get to explore another corner of the world and cross another place off your bucket list.

But there are a lot of misconceptions about taking a vacation in the Caribbean that could leave you with some snags on your trip. Instead, you’ll want to be prepared and do your research before you leave.

Keep reading to discover 8 things you need to know before taking a Caribbean vacation.

1. The Islands Are All Different

With over 7,000 islands, including Aruba, Jamaica, and The Bahamas, you’ll have tons of options to choose from when traveling to the Caribbean. But don’t fall into the trap of thinking they’re all one in the same.

While they share similar qualities, like a tropical climate and breathtaking beaches, they also have many differences. Some are better for romantic honeymoons while others are known for scuba diving and snorkeling. Ideally, you should pick one or two islands that meet your travel goals.

2. There’s More to Do Than Hit the Beach

Of course, you’ll want to spend your fair share of time on the beach – who wouldn’t when you’re in paradise? But there’s more to do when you travel to the Caribbean than lounging in the sand.

Create a list of all the things you want to do. This could include taking a cultural tour, snorkeling, or seeing wildlife. Then find an island that will let you do this.

Don’t forget to do extra research to uncover any hidden gems or unique activities on the island you chose. To avoid spending all your money on vacation, consider looking for free activities too!

3. The Weather Does Vary

One of the main reasons you’ve probably chosen the Caribbean for your next vacation is because of the warm weather. But know that they don’t experience perfect sunny days all year long.

Winter is a popular time to visit because this is when the weather in the Caribbean is at its peak. If you’re looking to save a little on hotel and airfare, you can get good deals and nice weather by going during the shoulder season.

However, June through November poses a potential problem as this is hurricane season. The last thing you’ll want is to get stormed out of your tropical vacation.

4. There Are Many Levels of Accommodation

Do you have this image of giant all-inclusive resorts dotting the beach? While there are many resorts to choose from, they aren’t your only option.

There’s accommodation to meet many different budgets when you vacation in the Caribbean.

You could opt for an all-inclusive package (which may seem expensive, but also includes food, drinks, and airfare), or opt for a budget hotel. But make sure everyone is on the same page with this aspect before you start planning your trip.

5. The Local Food Is Amazing

If you’ve decided to stay in an all-inclusive resort, you’re probably planning on eating most meals there. But don’t be afraid to venture off the resort a few times and try some authentic local cuisine.

Most islands have Creole or Latin-inspired cuisines that contain local ingredients, such as spiny lobster, goat, and red snapper. Part of traveling is experiencing life in a different country – so, take a leap and try something authentic and different. Look for travel tips to help you decide what foods and restaurants you must try when you’re there to ensure you get the best local food.

6. You Can’t Always Rely on Walking

Do you have a busy itinerary planned for your trip? Don’t forget to see how far apart your activities are. There’s a good chance you’ll need to organize transportation.

While you’ll likely be able to walk to the beach and local restaurants, you may need to rent a car or call a taxi to take you to your various planned excursions. This can add up quickly, so don’t forget to include it in your budget! However, you can save some money and help the environment by taking public transportation.

7. You May Need Vaccinations

When traveling from a first world country, many people forget about getting vaccinations. However, in certain areas of the world, these are extremely important to get before traveling.

The CDC recommends certain vaccines when traveling to the Caribbean, including Hepatitis A and Typhoid on top of routine vaccines. You’ll want to know this information with plenty of time to spare as many insurances don’t cover these voluntary travel vaccines and not every doctor’s office administers them.

8. Know What to Pack

Creating a comprehensive packing list is one of the most important things to do before you vacation in the Caribbean. Forgetting one important item could mean you have to waste your time on vacation looking for a replacement.

You’ll want to bring at least two bathing suits (so you always have a dry suit to put on). And pack plenty of shorts and lightweight clothing to keep you cool in the Caribbean heat. Plastic flip-flops are a must for the beach, although you should still pack sneakers or hiking shoes if you have an active itinerary planned.

Also, don’t forget your essential toiletries, including sunscreen and bug spray. The last thing you’ll want to deal with is painful sunburn or itchy bug bites everywhere. If you’re prone to sunburn, pack some aloe vera gel or another sunburn relief cream, so you’re prepared to soothe your burn right away.

Preparing to Vacation in The Caribbean

If there’s a Caribbean getaway in your future, you’ll want to make sure you do the proper research and planning before you go. One slip-up could cause your trip to take an unexpected turn.

So follow our guide to the things you need to know before taking a vacation in the Caribbean to ensure you’re well-prepared for your luxury getaway.

And, with so many choices, it can be difficult to narrow it all down to just one restaurant. After all, there are dining choices for every type of occasion and every type of individual, finicky or not.

So, where should you eat?

If you’re wondering what the best places to eat in San Francisco are, then you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we’re discussing some of the greatest dining scenes in the city. Keep reading to learn more.

8 of the Best Places to Eat in San Francisco

San Francisco has more restaurants per capita than any other city in America. Needless to say, it wasn’t easy compiling this list of just eight establishments.

These restaurants; some plain, some trendy, some hidden in plain sight, are all the craze in 2018. So, get ready to give your taste buds the ride of a lifetime while you savor all that these establishments have to offer.

1. Spruce

Spruce is deeply nestled in Presidio Heights, an inner-city suburb of San Francisco. It boasts white tablecloths, excellent customer service, and a wine list that absolutely doesn’t disappoint.

This is a refined neighborhood restaurant for the casual or formal diner.

Many people celebrate the signature menu item, the burger, adding taleggio or foie gras for the ultimate treat.

Spruce won the Grand Award from Wine Spectator magazine in 2017. Chef Sullivan believes in the farm to table philosophy and therefore many items on the menu are organic and ethically grown at a private farm outside the city.

2. Basa Seafood Express

If you have a hankering for some seafood and you’re dining on a budget, Basa Seafood Express is the place to be. Try their clam chowder and a salmon burger or fried shrimp and chips for a satisfying seafood treat.

This is also a seafood market where you can buy fresh seafood to make your own special dinner at home. If you’d prefer to have the food cooked for you, you can either dine in or order out. Don’t plan on a large party, however, as there are only a few seats and tables available.

3. Turtle Tower

Turtle Tower has three convenient locations so you can always find them. Check out the Civic Center, Outer Richmond, and SoMa, or order for delivery if you prefer! Make sure to check the days and hours of operation for your preferred location.

This restaurant serves authentic Ha Noi style Vietnamese cuisine with fast and friendly service.

The vibe is homey if you’re dining in and you’ll love the coconut infused water with real coconut meat. Go for the pho, and if you want to try something different, that’s okay, too.

4. The Cliff House

The Cliff House is one of San Francisco’s staple restaurants, if not for the food, for the view and dining experience altogether. When it’s not foggy, you can see the Sutro Bath ruins and rugged coastline for miles. When it is foggy, you’ll feel like you’re suspended in a cloud, high atop the world.

Make a brunch date to enjoy the $5 Irish coffees and an elegant mimosa or come for dinner and take your pick among the many wine varieties to pair with your meal. Whatever you decide, we’re sure you’ll want to come back again and again.

5. Rooster & Rice

Rooster & Rice has three convenient locations with one more on the way. Their signature menu item is Thai Chicken and Rice, also known as khao mun gai. You’ll enjoy the chicken and rice infused with cucumber and cilantro and topped off with garlic, ginger, chilis, and soybeans, all for under 12 bucks.

6. Roka Akor

Roka Akor has locations in Scottsdale, Arizona, Chicago, Illinois, Houston, Texas, and San Francisco. The focus is on steak, seafood, and sushi with the option of dining in or having it delivered right to your front door.

This restaurant offers a contemporary take on Robata Japanese cuisine and even won the Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator Magazine in 2015.

You can expect the menu to vary with the seasons, but overall, the food is delectable and the atmosphere is a blend of contemporary and casual. Come for the ambiance, stay for dinner, and don’t forget one of their extraordinary desserts.

7. Tartine Bakery

Tartine Bakery serves and sells warm bread, morning buns, and hot-pressed sandwiches. The bakery was established in 2002 and since has won the James Beard Award for Outstanding Pastry Chef.

They have two locations in San Francisco and thanks to their new partnership with Blue Bottle, you can find their award-winning pastries throughout the city.

Stop in for a treat, leave with a smile and happy taste buds.

8. Californios

Val M. Cantu, the head chef at Californios recently won America’s Best New Chefs award by Food and Wine magazine, not to mention other awards and accolades the restaurant has received in its short history.

This restaurant offers a sixteen-course tasting menu nightly. All dishes are prepared with the freshest, in-season produce.

Get there early because there are only 24 seats available. And, don’t expect to have the same thing twice if you dine here often as the menu is ever changing.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re vacationing or you live here, there is no shortage of places to eat in San Francisco. All you have to do is get out there and find a menu that suits your taste, dive in, and enjoy! But, if the choices are all too overwhelming, this list should get you started in the right direction.

The best way to find San Francisco restaurants that you’ll love is to simply try the cuisine. You can find menus online for many establishments to get a feel for what you think you may like and what to avoid.

Group Getaway: The Ultimate Guide to Planning a Company Retreat

Group Getaway: The Ultimate Guide to Planning a Company Retreat

There’s no better way to show appreciation to your employees than planning a company retreat. But if you don’t know where to start, click here to find out.

There are many reasons to plan a corporate retreat. It’s a time to get away from the office to work on creating stronger bonds between employees.

A business retreat is also a great way to build trust within a company. And it’s also just a nice way to show your employees how much you appreciate them.

But you can’t just book hotel rooms and call it a day. Without a formal plan, you won’t gain the benefits of a company retreat.

To help you and your employees get the most out of your time together, keep reading. We’re sharing with you the ultimate guide to planning a company retreat.

Create an Agenda for Your Company Retreat

Prepare and hand out the agenda before you head out on your business retreat. The agenda will help everyone plan accordingly.

Not only will they be able to pack essential items to help them participate in the planned events, it also helps everyone mentally prepare.

However, don’t have every minute planned. This agenda should be less structured than a day at the office since you are here to actually have some fun.

Allow for changes and adaptations so everyone gets the most out of it they possibly can.

Use Corporate Retreat Ideas That Help Introverts Feel Comfortable

Remember that not everyone is a leader. Some people are introverts and don’t always feel comfortable in large group settings.

In fact, if done incorrectly, your corporate retreat can end up exhausting the introverts while invigorating the extroverts. This isn’t what you want to achieve.

Instead, plan games and events that both introverts and extroverts can play. Extroverts can shout out answers while introverts write them down.

Make sure there’s plenty of downtimes so introverts can rest up while extroverts can gather together.

Make Sure Everyone Has Transportation

Not everyone owns a car or has their own form of transportation. Perhaps employees share one car and a spouse needs it to shuttle the kids around.

One way to ensure everyone comes on your business retreat is to help plan travel arrangements ahead of time. You can hire shuttle vans or buses to pick up everyone to travel together.

The bus ride can be filled with lots of fun activities or you can even take the time for everyone to share their own company retreat ideas. You can even give a prize to the person who comes up with the best event idea.

Be Aware of Food, Alcohol, and Physical Limitations

A corporate retreat to wine country sounds amazing. And there are plenty of breweries you can visit as well.

But before you book any excursions, make sure no employee is struggling with alcohol addiction or simply chooses to be a teetotaler. Otherwise, it’s not a fun or fair trip for them.

Another issue you may have to watch out for is with food. Many people are on special diets which may make it difficult for them to find food during your retreat.

Then there are those people who physically can’t do certain activities.

Try to make sure your food menus include plenty of healthy fruits and vegetables and that you address any food allergies anyone may have.

For those who can’t be around alcohol or who have a physical ailment making it difficult to participate in certain activities, try to find alternative activities during those times.

Create a Budget

To plan a fun corporate retreat, plan on spending a minimum of $500 per person per night. That should include the hotel stay, meeting space, food and beverages, transportation, and a few other things.

If you’re booking your stay at a hotel then don’t forget to ask for concessions. Hotels love booking corporate events because it means big money for them, especially if you plan on using their hotel more than once.

Do not be afraid to ask if they’re willing to add in extra concessions like waving the resort fee or giving you all free Wi-Fi. The more money you can save, the better.

And research ways you can save extra money before you book your trip.

Choose Someone to Facilitate the Retreat

Someone will need to be in charge of ensuring everything goes smoothly. Appoint someone who is already trained in dealing with groups and knows how to maintain neutrality throughout the entire process.

While you may think the CEO or manager is a great choice, these people aren’t usually known for being neutral. Which is why it’s usually best to hire a professional facilitator.

However, since they can cost up to $5,000, if that’s not in your budget, whoever you appoint to be the leader needs to tread lightly.

It’s not so easy to be a leader and then ask employees to openly and honestly give their opinion.

They’re worried about their jobs. It’s your job at the retreat to create a space where people feel they can speak freely.

Make it Fun, Not Cheesy

Your goal is to come up with company retreat ideas that are fun but aren’t cheesy. You don’t want your attendees to feel they are being forced to pretend they’re having fun when secretly, they’re rolling their eyes.

Do some research on fun activities that aren’t the typical games people play. While it’s okay to use some classics, a potato sack race just might be a bit too much for people.

Book Early

The sooner you book a place to hold your company retreat, the less expensive it will be. It’s also easier for you to plan something in advance to ensure you have plenty of time to prepare.

Try searching for a place to hold your retreat that’s not in a major city or town. Not only will you save more money but your attendees won’t be as tempted to leave the retreat in search of their own fun.

And book your trip off-season. Again, you’ll save money, you’ll probably get a better package, and with fewer people around you can really focus on team building.

Keep Researching Corporate Retreat Ideas

If your first company retreat is a success, it makes sense to keep doing it. But you don’t want to keep doing the same thing year after year.

Instead, keep researching around for new ideas. Don’t forget to ask employees to share their favorite ideas as well.

And our blog can help. We’re constantly sharing our favorite places on the planet to travel to. Find out where your next retreat will be by clicking here.
