6 Surprisingly Cheap Countries to Travel to in 2018

If you’re looking for somewhere to travel to, but are on a tight budget, fear not. Here are six surprisingly cheap countries to travel to in 2018.

A 20-year study recently showed that people who spend discretionary funds on travel are significantly happier than people who spend those funds on material items.

And trust us, traveling abroad can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. The key to cheap travel is focusing on inexpensive destinations and planning ahead.

So read on for our guide to six cheap countries to travel to this year!

1. Norway

Norway has so much to offer all year long. Spring through fall, you can enjoy extended hours of daylight, lush green landscapes, amazing hiking, and iconic fjords.

Fjords are deep inlets of the sea usually surrounded on both sides by high cliffs or mountains. Norway’s fjords are world famous and worth the trip.

During the winter, you can enjoy phenomenal views of the northern lights and world class skiing. Flights to both major cities (Oslo and Bergen) are averaging only $815 from United States airports.

2. Spain

One of the things that makes Spain such an affordable destination is the number of free tourist attractions. Spain is home to thousands of historic churches many of which are free for the public to visit.

It’s also home to some iconic works by famous architect Antoni Gaudi. The Sagrada Familia and Guell Park are inexpensive destinations that are worth the plane ticket.

Spain also boasts some of the most sought-after beaches in the world as it has coastline along the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

Flights into Barcelona average around $870 from United States airports.

3. Denmark

With the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Baltic Sea to the East, you’re guaranteed to enjoy some quality water views and boating experiences in beautiful Denmark.

It’s home to the world-famous tulip farms which visitors can enjoy during the spring months.

Denmark is centrally located and a perfect place to begin a longer European trip. With Sweden to the north and Germany to the south, Denmark is your gateway to Europe!

Flights to Copenhagen average around $750 from United States airports.

4. Vietnam

Ha Long Bay is home to over 2,000 jungle-covered islands accessible by cheap chartered boats. This otherworldly destination is popular for kayakers, snorkelers, and cruisers alike. Visitors will enjoy amazing views of grottos, lake, and sinkholes.

Flights to Ho Chi Minh City averaged about $820 from United States airports.

5. Dominican Republic

The Carribean is accessible to budget travelers through the beautiful country of the Dominican Republic. You can pay less than $100 a night to stay in a beachfront resort.

The Dominican Republic is a perfect destination for travelers looking to enjoy a relaxing experience. We recommend avoiding the autumn months as they fall during the hurricane season.

Applying for a dominican citizenship program would let you fully enjoy exploring the country’s great wonders.

6. Mexico

Mexico has a wealth of culture and natural landmarks to enjoy. There are over 6,000 miles of coastline to choose from.

The conversion rate from U.S. dollars to pesos is very favorable. And visitors will enjoy unlimited amounts of world-famous cuisine!

We recommend avoiding the autumn months as they fall during Mexico’s hurricane season. Flights to Mexico City or Guadalajara average less than $500 from United States airports.
