Monitoring The Movements In Your Home With Hidden Spy Cameras

May 17, 2018

Why is hidden cameras gaining popularity and a necessity for private premises, child care centres, elderly care centres, and etc.? Thanks to modern technological advancement, these hidden or spy cameras come in many different designs. These cameras are not complicated to operate and they are an advantage and useful for many reasons.

The hidden security cameras are not like the CCTV cameras we see in public places that are visible to anyone. These cameras are concealed in table clocks, lampshades, wall sockets, etc. and not easily seen. That is why it is known as hidden spy cameras. Anyone can own these spy cameras due to the affordable prices.

Having a spy camera in your house is an advantage because it is like having an extra eye watching your family especially in homes where there are care givers, baby sitters, maid, or workers in your home. With the amount of child abuse reports and thefts, it is advisable to invest in spy cameras for security surveillance of your home. Especially for parents who leave their little ones to the care givers while they go to work. With a hidden indoor security camera system, you can monitor the movements of the care giver and situation in your home as and whenever convenient to you.

These day parents are not taking chances with the safety of their little ones left in the care of maids while they are at work. They feel more at peace when they are able to monitor the situation in their home and what happens to their little ones or elderly parents in the hands of care givers while they are not at home. The spy cameras and the video recordings will provide hard evidence if there is any sign of abuse or negligence on the part of the care givers.

Investing in a spy camera for home system will also enable to discover any negative or illegal activities by anyone of your family members or workers. Sometimes, thefts could be committed by those who are familiar with the ins and outs of your house. The culprit or culprits will not know of the existence of a hidden camera. It is benefitting to have a hidden spy camera system installed in your home especially if you are someone who travels often and spend a lot of time away from home.

These hidden cameras will also enable parents to monitor their older children and their activities whenever they are left on their own without an adult keeping an eye over them. Some older children tend to be mischievous and might wreak havoc when left unattended.

A Beer Lovers Guide To San Francisco

May 7, 2018

If your house is one where the words yeast, sanitizer, and bottle capper are used regularly, you probably brew your own beer. If you’re lucky enough to have tasted a batch of homebrew, you’re most likely hooked.  One sip of a good homebrew and you have an uncontrollable impulse to recreate and improve upon that recipe again and again. You probably also know that a good homebrew is an art that takes time, effort, and more than a few curse words, for flavor, of course.

The skilled brewmasters at the bars and breweries in San Francisco have perfected the art of crafting beer and you have to check them out.

South of Market (SOMA)

Photo via Flickr by Gordon Zheng

The SOMA district of San Francisco is full of activity. Check in to your room at any of the nearby InterContinental Hotels Group locations, refresh yourself, then walk over to the Cellarmaker Brewing Company. A local favorite, Cellarmaker specializes in hops-driven beers, but the drink menu is diverse, including IPAs, ales, lagers, bitters, porters, and stouts. They brew a small amount at a time to keep the new flavors coming. With names like Lost Wisdom and Killed By Death, you know you’re in for a good night. They even encourage you to bring food with you, or you can order delivery from a local restaurant.

Next, walk around the corner to 21st Amendment, another creative brewery with a full-service bar, specialty batches of homebrew, and classic pub food. ThirstyBear, the first and only certified organic craft brewery, is also in the neighborhood. Their craft beers are only available on tap, and they serve traditional Spanish tapas.

If your hotel is nearby, take a walking tour of three microbreweries or craft beer bars. Keep it in the small group setting, enjoy some mind-blowing brews, and have a blast with the local tour guide.

Dogpatch

The Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco, formerly known as Dutchman’s Flat, is home to even more brewing masterminds. Triple Voodoo Brewery & Tap Room has 16 unique beers on tap. It’s dog-friendly but you must be 21 or older to enter, so no kids allowed.

Speakeasy Ales & Lagers has been open since 1997 and features Prohibition-era decor. It even has an underground taproom. You can “Join the Mob” by adding it on social media and enjoy the food trucks scheduled for customers.

Mission District

Photo via Flickr by David Ohmer
Almanac focuses on the “farm-to-barrel” process, scrutinizing everything that goes into its brews. It also serves locally sourced ingredients on a seasonal menu, which is designed to complement its beers. Also in the Mission District is the Southern Pacific Brewing Company. The bar, restaurant, and brewery are located in a 10,000-square-foot warehouse. It is considered a gastropub and serves “elevated” pub food to pair with its craft beers and specialty cocktails.

This is just the head on the pint of the San Francisco craft and homebrew scene. There are so many more original and delicious breweries in and around the city. Make a trip of it. Spend a week. Enjoy all that the Bay Area has to offer. But most importantly, try these creative recipes and support the local breweries.

Don’t Spend All Your Money When You’re On Vacation With These Four Tips

May 2, 2018

Going on vacation means you’re going to spend money. You’ll undoubtedly have to spend money on accommodations and travel, but you’ll also be spending money on food, activities, experiences, and more.

It’s okay to spend more money on vacation than you would when you’re at home, but that doesn’t mean you want to return to an empty bank account!

No matter where your travels take you, these four tips will help you minimize your spending so you don’t spend every dime while you’re on the road.

Don’t Carry Too Much Cash With You

If you have it, you’re going to spend it. After all, that’s where the expression “money burning a hole in your pocket” came from.

It’s a good idea to travel with a little cash, especially if you’re traveling abroad or visiting an underdeveloped area where credit cards aren’t the norm, but that doesn’t mean you need a ton of cash.

Set a budget and only carry that amount with you in your pocket. If you experience an emergency and need more money, you can always have some money wired to you from a friend or family member.

Don’t Eat out at Every Meal

If you’re traveling, you probably don’t have access to a real kitchen. Not to mention, you probably don’t want to spend all your time cooking when you’re on vacation! However, you can save gobs of cash by not eating out for every meal.

The obvious answer is to buy lunch meat and take advantage of free breakfast, but a few other ideas include:

  • Use the warmer plate on your coffee maker to make pancakes
  • Make ramen noodles in the coffee maker
  • Wrap a grilled cheese sandwich in foil and cook it with an iron
  • Cook steak in a cooler using hot water

Pay for Experiences, Not Stuff

Souvenirs can quickly suck up your cash, and the sad thing is, most souvenirs are cheap! Instead, focus on paying for experiences. After all, you didn’t decide to go on vacation because you wanted to go on a giant shopping spree!

If you do decide to buy an item or two during your travels, make sure it’s something authentic that you would still be interested in if you came across the item at home. Skip the magnets, snow globes, and shot glasses.

Look for Free Things to Do

Although your money is better spent on experiences and not stuff, that doesn’t mean you should blow your wad on experiences either!

Many cities offer free things to do, and many of those ideas are universal. For example, most cities have a museum or two that have free admission. Parks are a great way to get closer to nature. You may even be able to do a little beer tasting for free!

Don’t spend all your money on vacation with these tips. After all, if you spend less now you can use what you save to start planning your next big adventure!

Seaview Hotels That Will Blow Your Mind

May 1, 2018

Taking a holiday to the sea is one thing, but to make the best of it, you want to wake up each morning to an ocean breeze and an unforgettable view. The gentle rush of waves hitting the shore is both relaxing and inspiring, so it’s no wonder that some of the best hotels in the world make sea views their top priority.

With life by the sea proving as good for the body as it is for the soul, you’ll likely be booking your holiday with visions of the deep in mind. Here are some of the most amazing seaview hotels imaginable, from every corner of the world.

Soneva Kiri, Thailand

This beautiful collection of suspended villas and interlinked spas and restaurants in Koh Kood, Thailand is awash with greenery on every side. The opportunity to cycle, scuba dive or unwind in the spa makes for an attractive package in and of itself, yet where Soneva Kiri really shines is its Cinema Paradiso. That’s a nightly open air movie-going experience where the big screen is surrounded by natural trees and vegetation.

But of course, the sea views are what really make this hotel special. Soneva Kiri proudly notes it’s a Thai hotel in untouched tourism territory, making the natural splendours of the water shine. They’re best enjoyed from the infinity pool, which is easily up there among the best in the world.

Jade Mountain Resort, St Lucia

While great sea views and the Caribbean go together like strawberries and cream, it takes a special kind of vision to stand apart from the crowd. The owner and architect of Jade Mountainin St Lucia, Mr Nick Troubetzkoy, specially designed this hotel and resort to sprinkle down the hillside among trees and rocky outcrops to give the perfect sea view from every angle.

While spas, infinity pools and balconies each offer superb views of the sights, the hotel also boasts a stylish approach to cuisine. Gourmet flavours here, rich in tropical flair with colours and spices to match, is complemented by acoustic sessions and jazz musicians that help liven up the night.

Gara Rock, Great Britain

With staycations on the rise and plenty of beautiful views on offer to those in the know, there’s a rising and almost secretive and secluded clique of UK hotels offering stunning sea views.

At Gara Rock in Devon, the rugged coastlines of the UK, sprawling out into a rolling ocean, make for superb views. Meals and teas at The Lookout Hut give great views at mealtimes too, but the loft rooms offer a sublime retreat for those of you looking for grand sea vistas that also let you access nearby spa and beauty therapies.

Six Senses Fiji

Making its debut in April 2018, Six Senses Fiji on Malolo Island makes the most of the archipelago’s stunning sea views. With white sandy beaches and rich, deep blue Pacific waves in every direction, water babies have lots to love here. That’s especially true if staying in one of the more exclusive pool villas, each of which have their own private pools to enjoy alongside those sea vistas. With delicious dining and a range of ways to unwind, including a Wellness Village for treatments, Six Senses Fiji is also doing its bit to function in harmony with the natural beauty surrounding it. In fact, the site uses solar power throughout the resort, making it environmentally friendly in every way.

Baros Maldives

For the ultimate in sea views at your hotel, consider retreating to a tiny coral island surrounded on all sides by the Indian Ocean and a bevy of white sand beaches. That’s what’s promised by Baros Maldives, a luxury hotel resort featuring intricately designed tropical architecture that perfectly complements its stunning surroundings.

Small and intimate, you’ve got authentic dining and personal sunbeds to enjoy, but the real showstopper here is the beautiful Nooma. She’s a traditional wooden dhoni sailing ship, offering excursions out on that crystalline sea under swarthy sunshine galore.

There are so many hotels offering fantastic sea views. Which is your favourite?

4 Best Cities In The U.S. For Beer Lovers

April 25, 2018

If you’re a beer-lover, touring the U.S. is bound to be the taste adventure of your dreams. We looked at the best cities for beer geeks, and the following topped our list, not just because of the rich culture and history behind both craft breweries and big breweries in the area, but also because of the unique bars, beer tours, and beer options they provide.

Portland, Oregon

Photo via Flickr by almostsummersky

Home to more than 60 brewing establishments and host of more than a hundred beer festivals a year, Portland is bound to be one of any beer-lover’s favorite cities. The biggest outdoor beer party on the continent, the Oregon Brewers Festival that takes place here every July and brings more than 85,000 people from all over the world to the Tom McCall Waterfront Park.

If you’re looking for something a little more relaxed, several beer-tour companies offer bus tours, or you could hit a few breweries in an easy-afternoon bike tour. Craft beer fans will especially love it here. Research has shown that Portland leads the U.S. in craft beer sales.

Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville is a great destination for a beer-cation, thanks to the mushrooming of breweries producing unique, award-winning beers. The beer scene in Nashville came to light in 1994 when Blackstone Brewing Co. opened to offer craft beer brewed on-site, and the concept took off. Numerous breweries in the area, such as the Jackalope Brewing Company, Fat Bottom Brewery, Black Abbey Brewing Company and more, have come up with a wide variety of creations that are bound to intrigue any beer-lover’s tongue. Make your trip convenient by booking an IHG hotel in close proximity to these spots so you don’t have to worry about sampling too much on brewery tours.

Austin, Texas

The craft beer scene in Austin is thriving, clearly seen with the numerous brewpubs and expanding home-breweries in the area. Beer gardens are in plenty, where you can attend tours and a great place to go for the freshest possible drink of your choice.

There are some unique breweries that you may want to check out, such as the Jester King Brewery, which is the only farmhouse brewery in Texas that allows natural yeast to ferment the beers. Even more interesting is the Black Star Co-Op, which takes a different approach by using its recycled grains to make dog biscuits and selling its beer in eco-conscious cans.

Boston, Massachusetts

When people think of Boston beer, the first thing that comes to mind is Samuel Adams, the historic brew produced by Boston Beer Co. But what many don’t know is that residents and visitors consume much more than this one beer. In fact, Boston consumes more beer per capita than any other city in the U.S. This guarantees a lively beer scene. The East Coast’s largest celebration of domestic microbrews, the American Craft Beer Fest, takes place in May. It features more than 600 different varieties from over 125 American brewers.

So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and prepare your taste buds and beer bellies for a trip of sensory delights.

One Beer A Day, Is That Enough?

April 17, 2018

There are different studies about alcohol usage, the pro’s and con’s of it, coming out every single day. Okay, not every day, sometimes it just feels like it. And all the studies seem to be contradicting each other. The latest sobering study came to the conclusion that alcohol usage should be limited to one drink per day.

That study found that people who drink more than seven drinks a week have lower life expectancy than those who drink less. According to the study, men who drink 14 drinks a week can expect to live two years less than men who drink maximum of seven drinks a week.

This latest research combines results from 83 studies from 19 different countries and involved around 600 000 people. “The study is a serious wake-up call for many countries,” Jeremy Pearson of the British Heart Foundation said.

However, this is just one of such studies. Some previous studies show different things. For example, beer can help you avoid dementia according to one study, which came to the conclusion that “Moderate and heavy drinkers had 2-fold higher odds of living to age 85 without cognitive impairment relative to non-drinkers.” So if you have asked someone three times in row if you can you play powerball online, you should start thinking that maybe you might need to consider drinking more. That’s sort of a joke, but there actually might be some truth to it.

And yet another study showed that men who drink “14 alcoholic beverages each week” had roughly 50% lower risk of developing diabetes.

So which study is actually correct, that’s pretty difficult to say. But one thing’s for sure, all of the aforementioned studies have some truth to them.

Five Must-See Icelandic Destinations (Outside of Reykjavik)

April 12, 2018

For those who want to beat the heat during the summer months, a vacation to a cooler climate can be highly appealing. With plenty of tourist-y destinations scattered all over the Northern Hemisphere, picking the right place for your tastes isn’t as simple as you might think.

Likewise, there are many travelers who want to fully encompass themselves in the ambiance of winter, choosing to travel from more temperate climates to colder ones. With plenty of outdoor winter activities to enjoy, it’s not as bad of an experience as some would believe.

One destination that’s increasingly gaining attention from travelers on a year-round basis is Iceland. A relatively small country with an even smaller population, Iceland boasts both great urban life and vast, tranquil nature. To get an idea of how fun Iceland can be, we’ve put together a list of five must-see attractions throughout Iceland, all of which can be found outside the main urban area of Reykjavik.

Thingvellir National Park

When people think of countries like Iceland – as well as most of the Nordic countries – one of the first things that comes to mind is the aurora borealis. Also known as “Northern Lights”, there are relatively few people who can enjoy this natural phenomenon on a consistent basis. If you’re visiting Iceland and want to take in the show for yourself, however, then a trip to Thingvellir National Park is a must.

Arguably the best place in the world to witness the Northern Lights, Iceland sightseeing isn’t complete without a trip to this park. With a ton of historical, cultural and geological activity to observe and learn about, this destination makes for both a fun and informative detour while in the country.

Hornstrandir Nature Reserve

Far away from the busy capital of Reykjavik, a peninsula juts out from the remainder of Iceland. Known as the Westfjords, this section of Iceland provides some of the most beautiful views anywhere in the country. Situated within this region of the country is the Hornstrandir Natural Reserve, one of the most isolated places in the world.

Inside this beautifully preserved area, you can witness massive, jutting peaks that play home to many unique species of birds and wildlife. Until relatively recently, this section of Iceland was effectively cut off from civilization, with a few small villages being wholly self-reliant. While the villages have since disbanded, the beauty that comes with this natural reserve remains intact.

Lake Myvatn

People flock from all over the world to see, witness, and experience the immense geological activity in Iceland. From naturally-occurring hot springs to absurd lava formations, Lake Myvatn is one place to see it all.

The natural baths in the area are a prime attraction, but geological activity has made some of them unsafe (it is highly recommended to seek local advice before entering any natural bath or hot spring!). Nevertheless, you don’t have to dip your toes in the water to experience the beauty that lava, wind and time have bestowed upon the lake.

Hekla

Iceland may be best known for its immense geothermal activity. Underneath the island is a plethora of volcanic activity, culminating in large part around the active volcanoes on the island. Most people are familiar with the Eyjafjallajökull volcano that disrupted global air traffic with an eruption several years ago, but another beautiful example is the Hekla volcano.

Known as one of the most active volcanoes on the entire planet, Hekla rises more than 4,500 feet, providing an anchor in the Icelandic countryside for a beautiful vista. The area surrounding the volcano looks more like an alien planet than one would think is possible, which has led to it being a cultural and artistic inspiration for many.

Solheimajokull Glacier

What trip to Iceland would be complete without a bit of ice climbing and hiking? Iceland’s natural climate means that you can enjoy these adventures throughout most of the year. One of the best places to visit for an ice climbing adventure is the Solheimajokull glacier, located about 150km outside of Reykjavik.

With an expert guide to assist, you’ll be able to scale the beautiful ice formations of the region, visit one of the largest waterfalls in the country and take in the immaculate terrain of the region as ice collides and meshes with earth. For those seeking a full day’s adventure without fully separating themselves from the capital city, there are day-trip adventure packages to Solheimajokull from Reykjavik.

Looking at Iceland on a map, the country can seem quite small. However, once immersed in everything there is to see and do here, you’ll feel nothing of the sort. The vast, open terrain outside of the capital city can feel untamed at times, providing some of the most beautiful views anywhere in the world. If you’re ready to visit Iceland but want more than the typical urban tourist experience, then these five destinations are must-see attractions.
