3 Breweries to Visit Near Houston, Texas

Texans love good beers, and you will find an abundance of awesome breweries around the Houston area. From small mom and pop breweries to ones run by college friends, you will never have to go thirsty while visiting Houston. Let’s take a look at three breweries where you can go to wet your whistle.

Back Pew Brewing Company

Located in Porter, the Back Pew Brewing Company is located in an old church building. The name of the brewing company stems from the fact that when the owners were kids, they were a bit rebellious and always had to sit in the back pews of the church. Today, this brewing company creates craft beers with names that tip their hat to religion, such as Ryesurrection, Sweet Salvation, and Act of Balor.

The brewpub is open Thursday through Sunday. There are food trucks on-site on Saturdays, and you are encouraged to bring chairs and games to the 14-acre space to enjoy yourself. Have fun sampling their brews at this resurrected church.

Lone Pint Brewery

This brewery, located in Magnolia, is proudly run by renewable energy and the owners self-proclaim the brewery as “grassroots insurrection.” They are passionate about being an eco-brewery and they even give their spent grains to local dairy farmers for the cows to eat.

The brewery is only open on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. where you can take a tour of the brewery as well as sample the beers for $10.00. It jas several core beers such as IPAs, brown ales, and single-hop IPAs.

The seasonal beers have very interesting names and stories. For instance, the fall braggot, made with honey and mead, is called Po-Cha-Na-Quar-Hip Braggot, which is named after a Penateka Comanche war chief who’s tribal name means “honeyeaters.”  If you’re stopping by the Lone Pint Brewery as part of a visit to Magnolia, you will find plenty of lodging options nearby.

Karbach Brewing Company

As the name indicates, this brewery is located on Karbach Street in Houston. The owners originally started their beer distribution company in this exact location years ago, so it seems fitting to now have a vibrant brewing company here today.

The brewpub and restaurant are open every day from mid-morning until late evening. The restaurant serves up food that just happens to pair really well with beer, including appetizers, salads, pizza, steaks, burgers, and more.

The mainstay beers include Love Street, Weekend Warrior, Rodeo Clown IPA, and Lemon and Ginger Radler. Seasonal beers have names that are just as fun as the mainstays, such as Karbachoberfest, and Yule Shoot Your Eye Out.

If you would like to take a tour of the brewery and to hang out in the Biergarten, show up early, as tours fill up quickly and there is limited space. For $11.00 you will see how the brewery is run and you will receive a 9-ounce glass and four tokens, or for $15.00 you receive a pint glass and three tokens that are redeemable at the Biergarten.
