If you’re like me and have children who seem to only need the toilet at times when it is the least convenient then you’ll feel my pain, there is no way around it, you can’t make them hold it till you get to your destination because that only shoots you in the other foot. So you unlock the 5 bolts on the front door, deactivate the alarm, and tell them to get a move on.
You may laugh but this happens at least a few times a year to our family. Then there are those times when, even though you have asked 10 times before the bill came to pay for dinner, even when the table has been cleared and you’re grabbing your belongings, as soon as we have left the building and not close enough to go back, the ‘bathroom need’ strikes.
So you’re rushing around hoping to find somewhere that looks half decent to go into and beg to have your child be allowed to use their facilities, even though you opted not to eat there that evening, and sprint to the door showing WC with a kid flying alongside you, feet almost off the floor.
Then wiping down the seat with the hygiene disinfectant in your handbag that you don’t leave the house without, you plop the child on top and breathe a sigh of relief you aren’t out hunting for new trousers and underwear if an ‘accident’ had to have happened.
Now comes the interesting part, I always used to moan when there wasn’t any toilet paper, and ideally I should’ve checked before going into the cubicle, but now I am not worried no matter where we end up. I’ve come across an innovation that has changed the way we do things in our family, and happily use facilities with peace of mind.
Products such as flushable GoodWipes, has been a game-changer for cleanliness in our gang and most importantly with our children. They are biodegradable wet wipes that flush easily, safe for the environment, and smell great too which is a plus for little ones. They choose their scents and colors and there are no arguments at bathroom breaks.
I only wish we had come across them sooner, all those years of scraping dry, stiff toilet paper over our skins is enough to make me want to cry, I’m just blessed we still have skin left to take care of. I can completely understand how it could lead to irritation and cracking and the ultimate discomfort.
What to look for when opting to switch from paper to wipes.
A great article on products, ranges, and features for each can be found here https://www.self.com/story/flushable-wipes-vs-toilet-tissue but we will take a look at a few key factors to keep in mind when shopping for something that is not only safe for you but safe for the planet.
Bamboo has seen its popularity significantly increase in recent years due to its natural, flexible, and sustainable elements, and this is no different when it comes to hygiene. Products consisting of bamboo and its fibers are not only eco-aware but contain no harmful chemicals, toxins, or perfumes that can irritate skin and cause allergic reactions.
The great thing as well is that although aloe has been used in products for centuries it is now being respected in terms of self-care and looking to the future, and ensuring we have one for our upcoming generations.
You want a product that is safe to use for all the family members, from baby to dad, who seems to not be bothered what’s in the bathroom as long as there’s a newspaper while he is busy, am I right? But we still look out for him nevertheless.
Of course, if disposable options aren’t financially possible because let’s be honest it does require constant purchasing, looking into organic, reusable towels and cloths is a great way to do your part.
Handwashing after each use will let them last longer and be kinder to your purse, see this quick video about a clever mom that created an item to save her daughters wallet, and became a hit sensation with her friends.
It may take a bit of effort in the beginning but it’ll be worth it. Working smart, not hard as the saying goes.
