Dealing WIth Plumbing Issues When Spring Comes

Taking care of pipes in your home can be quite challenging if you get lazy and forget a few simple rules. Plumbers are often the only ones who can help when it’s too late, and a problem has arisen. When your plumber is unavailable, frustration will grow even stronger. As a result, to avoid wasting time and money on fixing breaks, I decided to speak with plumbing company OneStop Plumbers to learn as much as possible about preventing breaks and treating my pipes properly. Preventing breaks and clogs requires some preventive measures, so here’s what you need to do:

Relocating

When you move into a new home, it is crucial to have it inspected to determine the state of the plumbing and see whether you need to repair something. If there is a leak you cannot fix immediately when you move in, you should find the main valve where you can shut the water off. It’s important to locate those valves, whether it’s a house or apartment. Some real estate owners do not have individual valves for every unit but instead store them in a common area of the building. It is also essential to identify sewer line access points for several reasons.

Home Repairs

Whenever you decide to make holes in the wall, whether to hang a picture or any other purpose, you must first check whether there is a pipe close by. It is also a good idea to mark those spots for future reference. If you are unsure how to find these pipes, you should talk to previous owners or ask the current property owner if you are renting the place.

Think Before Flushing

Flushing before thinking about what you are flushing will not make the problem go away. Instead, it will come to haunt you in the future. Clogging is inevitable if you are not considerate. For this reason alone, you need to make sure you are flushing only toilet paper. Sometimes it can take days for a professional to come over and unclog the pipes.

In addition, if you prefer to do your dishes manually, you should also check your drains. Leaving food remains, bubble gums or even cigarette butts in the gutter is not good. The pipes will clog when you least expect them. Fortunately, you can avoid the mess by simply being more careful about what you flush down the toilet and the drain.

Use A Plunger

Even if you’re careful about what you flush down the drain, clogs are bound to occur, and when they do, don’t be afraid to use a plunger to quickly solve the problem. Chemicals may also help, but be careful with those, as they can also help clog the system.

Vacuum Cleaner Can Help

Occasionally, small objects can become stuck in your drains and cause problems. The best tool to use here is a vacuum cleaner with a wet/dry spray attachment. In this way, you will have a much easier time sucking out the item before it gets too far down.

Never Ignore Leaks

Leak drips in the middle of the night are the least of your worries. Leaving the problem unattended will also not solve anything but will only worsen it. You cannot disregard the water you waste on your monthly bill, even if you don’t mind noisy drips that never stop. To prevent a small leak from growing, fix it right away.

After performing a plumbing job, the first thing you should always do is give a test drive to ensure that everything is working. Nobody can be 100% sure the problem has been solved, even if you call a professional plumber.
