Two Beekman Brothers - Traveling the World in Search of Great Beer

Make your dinner perfect with Alaska Salmon

If you’re stumped on what to prepare for dinner, rest assured that you aren’t alone. After all, in a world where getting the right ingredients seems harder and harder, figuring out the right meal for the whole family can be a bit tougher. For those who are trying to be as healthy as they are environmentally conscious, making the right choices in the grocery isle might matter even more. After all, with so many different species of fish on the don’t-buy list as well as constant rising rates of genetically-modified foods and meat raised in dubious conditions, picking something out that will be delicious as well as a safe bet for the environment can sometimes be a bit of a challenge.

To say “healthy salmon recipes” is, of course, a bit redundant. Wild Alaska salmon is naturally healthy; one of nature’s miracle foods, it is delicately flavored and bursting with essential vitamins and minerals. It’s simply that salmon is so good for you that the adjective bears repeating. Cooked as the main feature of a meal, salmon is guaranteed to be a wholesome entrée, but there are also many great grilled salmon recipes that use salmon as just one part of a more complex, healthy meal.

To some extent, deciding how to cook salmon steaks depends on what you want to use it for, and certainly depends on the method used to cook it. The guidelines for how to grill salmon steaks generally recommend 10 minutes per inch of thickness, over a medium-hot flame. Start with the skin side up, and flip only once. Don’t forget to rotate 90 degrees once per side, if you want the aesthetic crosshatch marks.

Once it has been grilled, salmon makes a sumptuous addition to salad. It works well in a lettuce based salad like a Caesar, for example, or in other creative salad dishes, like those that are pasta or bean-based. Salmon adds important protein and omega-3 fatty acids to a healthy food – salad – that otherwise would lack these essential nutrients. Learning how to cook salmon steaks is super simple, and they make a great addition any dish!

Grilled Salmon tastes

Grilled salmon also makes a superb sandwich. Buy some rich ciabatta or fresh panini bread, and whip up a savory sauce for seasoning. Pesto or yogurt dill sauces go well with Alaska salmon, as do more unusual spreads like curry or orange vinaigrette. Various salmon varieties carry vitamins A, C, D, and E, packing any sandwich with excellent benefits.

If you’re not an expert on preparing a delicious piece of Alaska Salmon or are under the impression that it is tough to figure out how to incorporate into recipes. The first one is that in many other countries, simply serving up well-seasoned salmon alongside some delicious green veggies and potatoes is more than enough of a meal. Take a clue from those in Portugal and Spain, and serve up a meal like this to the family. Hearty and delicious, it is sure to go over incredibly well. And all of the seasoning that you need is lemon, salt, and pepper to make it taste amazing.
