Two Beekman Brothers - Traveling the World in Search of Great Beer

5 Key Reasons Why You Should Make Your Own Beer

Making a list of top five reasons to make your own beer is like thinking of the top five reasons to drink water. The benefits are too many to count, it’s crucial to life on earth, and they are both great ways to achieve optimal hydration.

If you want to brew your own beer, we salute you. That’s how all the great breweries started.

If you’re just curious about the process or seriously dream about having massive barrels of your own brew, read this list we made of the top five reasons to start brewing at home.

The Art Of Brewing

We have to go back thousands of years to see where this story began.

Although being an ancient Sumerian had its benefits, they had no way to go to the liquor store to buy a six-pack of crispy boys. They had to get creative, so they let cereals ferment in a hole in the ground until it got all bubbly and drinking it made them feel and warm and fuzzy inside.

They were so happy with their creation that they created stone tablets with engravings of them drinking beer and wrote poems about it. They even worshipped Ninkasi, the goddess of brewing, and citizens of Uruk were often paid with beer.

Why You Should Make Your Own Beer

Even though we’ll never live as good as the townsfolk of Uruk, you can still learn how to make your own beer, which is pretty cool.

Here are our top five reasons to give it a shot.

1. Continuing an Ancient Tradition

As we mentioned before, the art of brewing beer has been constantly evolving over thousands of years. The ancient Mesopotamians, Egyptians, Chinese, and other cultures all brewed beer and revered the way it brought people together.

Your ancestors didn’t wrestle saber tooth tigers and brew their own beers in caves so you could just guzzle cheap, watered-down junk you got at the gas station.

Make them proud and brew your own piece of history.

2. Availability of Resources

Nowadays, beer making is relatively easy. You don’t have to use stone age tools and we have much nicer tablets for reading recipes than the Sumerians ever did.

BrewInMind have compiled all the brewing wisdom in one convenient website. Use them to learn all you need to know about making your own beer.

3. Imagine The Possibilities

The sky is the limit. You can make any kind of beer you want.

Tired of getting weird looks when asking for banana-flavored beer? Just make it yourself.

4. Sticking It To The Man

There is nothing Big Beer hates more than people realizing they can make vastly superior beers by themselves.

Let’s stop giving producers of mediocre beer billions of dollars.

5. That Satisfying Feeling

Have you ever hung a shelf by yourself? Have you ever actually eaten a whole head of lettuce before letting it shrivel in your fridge?

If so, then you know the satisfaction with doing something by yourself and seeing it to completion. Brewing beer is like that even better because you get beer at the end.

Your Next Obsession

The world of brewing is extremely extensive. There are many schools of thought and experts who can’t agree even on the most basic aspects of brewing.

Remember that, when you make your own beer, not only are conducting a scientific experiment, you are intimately expressing yourself.

Respect the process, respect the beer.
